Dear Editor,
I was walking down 800 North with my girlfriend a few days ago, and she mentioned how much she enjoyed her trip to Las Vegas over the holiday.
"The people there are so friendly and everybody in the ward makes an effort to know everybody else," she said. "It's not like Provo where everyone walks around with crusty looks on their faces and no one ever says hello," she said.
I have felt similar frustrations here in "Happy Valley." The attitude of some residents in Provo has shocked me, quite frankly, and I can't understand the reasoning behind our sour dispositions. Why don't more people in Provo make eye contact, smile or even acknowledge you when you pass by?
We have so much to be cheerful about. Even President Hinckley reminds us to smile, to be optimistic and happy.
Let's heed this counsel. Let's try harder to smile on campus and be gracious to those we pass.
