The irresistible smell of grilling foods and the excitement of a good football game on TV are two things that attract students to Legends Grille.
The restaurant, located in the Student Athletic Center, is a place where BYU football players and other BYU athletes hang out, but you don't have to be a BYU athlete to eat at the Grille.
Legends Grille offers a wide selection of foods in a relaxed atmosphere and, for many, is the perfect place to grab lunch and watch sports.
"This was my first time at Legends Grille, and I really enjoyed it," said Clint Wolfe, a graduate student from Springville, studying social work. "I like the sports theme and the big screens."
The menu has a wide selection, starting with the popular mixed green salad, which is prepared with a number of fresh toppings, all easy to spot from the service line.
The sports cafe serves specialty sandwiches such as the "San Francisco Melt," a beef brisket sandwich with chipotle mayonnaise, cheddar cheese and Anaheim chilies.
The Grille's entrees include sirloin steak, New York steak, fresh salmon and grilled chicken breast.
The cafe also offers oven-baked pastas and 8-inch hearth-baked pizzas with a variety of fresh vegetables and meat toppings. For those who like southern cooking, there is fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy and macaroni and cheese.
The eatery's ambience makes it a place where many students enjoy hanging out with friends without having to leave campus and spending a fortune on dinner.
"What I like about Legends Grille is its sports theme," Grille manager Wayne Griffin said. "This is a great place to come and watch a BYU away game."
Brooke Davis, a freshman from Texas, studying physics and astronomy, said she likes the inviting feel of the eatery.
"There is a lot of energy at Legends Grille," Davis said. "It's always fun to watch big groups coming in to eat and watch sports."
The restaurant also serves breakfast platters and omelets. One of Legends Grille's most interesting creations is the "Breakfast Pizza," topped with sausage, peppers and onions, with sauce, cheddar cheese and scrambled eggs.
Griffin explained that after Tommasito's closed down, Legends took over the pizza delivery on campus.
"We have had a really good response," Griffin said. "We add our special Legends touch to our pizzas. We only use the best quality ingredients."
Legends Grille is open Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-9 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m.-9 p.m. It is closed Tuesdays during devotional. More information is available at byu.edu/legendsgrille.
