The BYU hockey team suffered a convincing defeat Friday night losing 8-1 to Chadder's, a Midget Major AAA team, at the Peaks Ice Arena.

The game was close at the end of the first period, with Chadder's leading 1-0, but the Cougars allowed four more goals in the second to make it 5-0. BYU finally made it on the scoreboard in the third period with a goal from Forward Tyler Nickle, but Chadder's continued its dominant play by scoring three more times before the end of the game.

"I thought Chadder's came out pretty strong," Nickle said. "One of the things that they definitely beat us over was just getting aggressive over the puck."

According to Chadder's website, the AAA team is part of a classification of youth hockey that showcases top-flight talent. They definitely showcased their considerable skill early, scoring a short-handed goal half-way through the first-period.

"They just took it to us," BYU captain Josh Burkart said. "They're a good team and they really wanted it more than we did."

Burkart acknowledged that the team made some mental mistakes, but remained hopeful that a strong final few minutes would translate to a better effort in their upcoming games.

"We just have to come out and play a complete game," Burkart said.
